Update: USM Haller System Measure vs. Real Measure - What you should know!

The Measure of All Things

Of course, not all of us work full-time with system furniture, so no one can expect you to be familiar with the technical terms. But how do you proceed if you want to quickly replace a scratched tube in an online store and the only information you have is what the scale shows when measuring? That’s reason enough for us to take a closer look at both terms!

System Dimension

The term “system dimension” refers to the official USM Haller sizing standard. Measurements are always taken from ball center to ball center.

For example, a tube with a system dimension of 350 mm is not actually 350 mm long, but 332 mm.

Here is a brief overview:

System Dimension Real Measure
100 mm82 mm
125 mm107 mm
150 mm132 mm
175 mm157 mm
200 mm182 mm
250 mm232 mm
275 mm257 mm
350 mm332 mm
395 mm377 mm
500 mm482 mm
750 mm732 mm

Real Measure

The term “real measure” refers to the exact dimensions of an individual product. For a built-in component, this means measuring the actual length or width of the physical item.

For example, an outer shelf with a system dimension of 500 × 350 mm does not measure exactly 500 mm in length and 350 mm in width. Its real dimensions are 482 mm × 332 mm.

Absolute Measure

The “absolute measure” refers to the dimensions measured from the outermost point of the furniture to the next outermost point of any installed component. This represents the maximum space your furniture takes up.

For instance, a shelf with leveling feet and system dimensions of 750 × 350 × 350 mm actually has an “absolute measure” of 786 × 390 × 386 mm (width × height × depth). These numbers are crucial when your furniture needs to fit in a specific niche or space.
