USM Haller System Dimensions vs. Actual Dimensions - What you should know!
The Measure of All Things
Of course, not all of us work full-time on modular furniture, so no one can expect you to be familiar with the technical terms. But what do you do when you want to quickly replace a scratched tube yourself in the online shop, and you don't have more information than what the tape measure provides when measuring the available tube? For us, that's reason enough to take a closer look at both technical terms!
System Dimension
The term "System Dimension" refers to the technical USM Haller size units. It is always measured from the center of one ball to the center of another ball to arrive at this dimension.
This means, for example, that a tube with a system dimension of 350 is not 350 mm long, but has a length of 332 mm.
| System Dimension | Actual Dimension |
|---|---|
| 100 mm | 82 mm |
| 125 mm | 107 mm |
| 150 mm | 132 mm |
| 175 mm | 157 mm |
| 200 mm | 182 mm |
| 250 mm | 232 mm |
| 275 mm | 257 mm |
| 350 mm | 332 mm |
| 395 mm | 377 mm |
| 500 mm | 482 mm |
| 750 mm | 732 mm |
Actual Dimension
The term "Actual Dimension" refers to the real/exact measurement of the respective individual product. For an installed element, you measure the length or width of the respective product here.
For example, an external shelf with a system dimension of 500 × 350 mm does not have a length of 500 mm and a width of 350 mm, but as a single product, it has a length of 482 mm and a width of 332 mm.
Absolute Dimension
The term "Absolute Dimension" refers to the measurements taken from the outermost point of the furniture to the next outermost point of the installed elements. This is the maximum extent of your existing piece of furniture.
This means, for example, that a compartment with leveling feet with a system dimension of 750 × 350 × 350 mm does not have this measurement, but an "Absolute Dimension" of 786 × 390 × 386 mm (width × height × depth). These measurements are important if your furniture needs to fit into an existing niche.
